Little Feet

I love a lot of things about the baby stage, but one of my very favorites are sweet little baby feet!

Especially when they get to the grabbing and trying to eat them stage!

P-ville Time of Year

Last year we only made it to one pumpkin patch because the weather in October was horribly rainy. I even wrote a post about it.

This year we've already been to two and have plans to visit another one tomorrow! Thanks to the awesome planning of twinnie last week we were able to go with about 25+ friends to Pumpkinville. You would probably think that it was a complete circus with babies and toddlers everywhere, and it was, but we all had a blast anyway.

Waiting to go in. She actually said, "I so sad" because she didn't want to wait.

Camden's first Pumpkinville trip! This is the only picture I managed to capture with both of my babies in it.

Our little daycare buddy was FEARLESS in the animal section. He was so excited to be petting and feeding the llama and other animals.

Riley loved the deer. She kept asking me where Santa was.

She's the queen of the haybale!

Going down the big slide!

WHEEEEE!

Until next year Pumpkinville!

I smell...

T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

This morning while I was talking to my bestie I informed her that I might have to be medicated when Riley is a teenager.

I know that she is years away from that stage, but using the warp speed pace that she is headed for the age of 3 as my gauge I'd say it will be here before we know it.

Why the concern you wonder? (Or perhaps not because you already know I'm a worrier, duh)

Scenario 1:
We ventured to IHOP this weekend and had to wait for a bit. A father with three boys came in and sat down next to us. She immediately hopped up next to the one that was closest to her age, but still at least 2 years older than her.

Riley: Ohh, boooooy! What you name, boy? I'm Ril-wee. Do you like my dress? Look my tights! See my boots?
Boy: Simply speechless, stunned and somewhat frightened out of his mind.
Older Brother: It's okay Hootie (yes that's what the whole family was calling him), she seems....nice. (he said this as skeptically as is possible for an 8 year old while steering his brother to safety)

Scenario 2:
Yesterday I was typing an e-mail and Riley was standing at the open window in the kitchen looking out on the backyard. There was a group of boys either first grade or older playing on the dirt mound.

Riley: shouting through the screen... Hey! You boys! What you doin in my yar-duh? My name is Ril-wee! What you name? Can I come play wit you? You be careful out dere you boys! Hey! Where you going? Awww come baaaaack.
Boys running in fear as fast and as far away as they can get.

See? I'm not completely crazy (all the time). I do have reason to be concerned right? She's fearless, flirty, adorable and already has a penchant for older men. All at the ripe old age of 2 years and 9 months.

OTC: Sweet Copper Tub

My dad bought me this copper tub a few years ago. Well, sort of.

He and Gammy were in town for a visit and we took them to the Lucketts Antique Fair to browse the goods. When he saw the price tag he couldn't resist, stating that he had never seen them that cheap in his neck of the woods and bought it for himself.

Then he remembered that he flew here and had no way to transport this baby back. So it was passed on to me. I've used it to store blankets in our living room and photo books in our guest room, but when we moved in here I was stumped and out of space for it.

Until I started putting Riley's room together. I saw that little copper tub in a new light. Specifically an apple green light...

Riley's room is very pink and I wanted to pull out one of the other colors in her Hawaiian Quilt bedspread. I think the green was a perfect choice.

I thought I was done until TG pulled his "head tilt face". Meaning he tilted his head and looked at it quizzically before saying, "I think it needs something else. Polka dots maybe?" Okay so polka dots it is.

Several hours over several days of work later I finally finished hand painting a bazillion polka dots and her name. Then I took a paint pen and outlined the dots in white, and her name in white and hot pink.

Total for this project?

Glidden pink peony paint sample: FREE from the giveaway this spring
Rustoleum apple green spray paint: $3.79
White paint pen: $3.49
Pink paint pen: On hand from another project
Copper tub: FREE gift from Gampy, (but it was $50 when he bought it)

A sweet one of a kind custom piece for my darling girl's room for under $8! That is seriously on the cheap and it makes me want to view all my old things in a new way.

Talent Show

Thursday evening Riley ran into the kitchen in her full on dress up gear. She surveyed the window and begged me to close the window so that the curtains would stop blowing. (Actually first she stomped her foot and told me to make the air conditioner stop going until I told her to change her tone and pointed out that the window was open.)

I was confused, but I have learned not to question Riley's whims. As soon as I closed the window she stepped behind the curtains and said, "I red-ee for my talent show wadies and gentles-mans!"

Don't ask me where she gets this stuff from. I wish I could say it's my trait because it's cute as can be, but I'm actually kind of shy.

So, here's what her talent show consisted of. It's not the first take because I didn't have the camera with me in there, but she was happy to reenact the whole thing (quite a few times) using the curtains in the living room.

1. I love that it's a four step dance. Turn around, tap your feet, wiggle your head and wiggle your "cumm-eee".

2. You will never be able to convince me that another child looks cuter than her when she wiggles her tummy.

3. She's wearing a swimsuit from Old Navy that Tata bought her because it's made to look like a ballerina leotard. She's also sporting some of her favorite "soo high heelels". I'm ashamed to say she works heels better than I do.

4. How a 2.5 year old knows what a talent show is or that she should have an actual talent to perform completely blows my mind.

5. I love watching her think through something like when she has to pause for a second to remember the steps and the order they go in.

6. Her bows crack me up. She was doing them this week and saying "Your mag-es-tee". Took me a minute to figure out that she was calling me majesty.

7. I die at the absolute adorableness of her voice when she says "bye bye!". Okay, truthfully I teared up a little bit because I know her voice won't always sound like that.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Riley frequently pulls over the boppy that I keep in the living room and implores me, "Mommy, you ho-wold me like a ba-a-by?" and "Mommy, you tell my Daddy to be quiet?"

I know it's a phase based on the fact that she sees her little brother on there quite a bit so I do oblige her in small increments of time.

(If you read that thinking I actually nurse her, I DO not! I simply hold her on top of the boppy on my lap usually in the evening while TG is bathing Camden upstairs.)

But I have never seen her do this particular thing until yesterday afternoon. I was sitting on the floor in the living room checking my email and noticed that she had gone eerily silent. I thought she might have fallen asleep so I looked over and saw her with her shirt held up...

Without missing a beat she said, "Mommy, I feeding my baby from my cumm-ee. She so hun-ner-ee."

She's going to make a great Mom someday.

As long as we get her straightened out on where the milk actually comes from before then. :)

For Gigi

Let's just make sure we have it straight. I am a Steelers fan and I have been since I was very young. With the help of my family we started Riley early to make sure she too would be a Steelers fan. She has learned well and already knows the logo, the fight song, and that Sixburgh is #1!

TG's family are not Steelers fans. Gigi was born and raised in New England and so of course is a Patriots fan. I don't dislike the Patriots, but I don't like them either. However, I suppose I don't want to be a Greedy Gus and take both of my children and turn them into Steel City babies. Actually I do...but I have family to consider.

So this is for Gigi and her Patriots. We can be a house divided, but still full of love. We have Riley. You can have Camden. :)

The Grinch

I have a confession to make, and a preposterous one at that.

While I was pregnant with Camden I worried a lot. I worried about something that I know now is completely ridiculous, but at that moment in time kept me up at night.

I just couldn't fathom how I was going to love him as much as I love Riley.

Crazy, right?

Thing is, I love Riley so intensely. She was my first baby and since the moment they put her up to my face in that operating room to say hello I could not imagine my life without her. It's as if she has always been a part of my heart.

So I couldn't figure out how I was going to make room to love our son the way that I do Riley. I was definitely excited about his arrival, I couldn't wait to meet him, and I loved him already, but there was always the nagging thought of what if it wasn't enough?

Until they held him up to my face and we met for the first time. It was just like The Grinch. My heart grew ten fold, right there on the spot to make room for this sweet little guy.

I love Camden so fiercely. I can't imagine our life without him and just like his sister before him it's as if he has always been a part of my heart and ultimately God's plan for my life.

Seen and Heard

SEEN:
My two babies having their first joint bathtime. Riley loved being a big helper and was very gentle while Camden was in there. Matt held him the whole time because he's still wobbly and slippery in the tub, but he seemed to enjoy himself.

A perfect photo to embarass them with when they are teenagers.

Helping to rinse off her little brother.

HEARD:

Riley has been rocking us with some doozies lately so here we go.

Laying very still in her bed randomly the other day.
Me: What are you doing Roo?
Riley: I can't get up.
Me: Why not?
Riley: I waitin for my Prrrrince Carming. He gonna give me a big kiss!

Watching football with her Daddy. A guy gets tackled pretty hard.
TG: YOUNG MAN!
Riley: You got knocked out!

Trying to get dressed for the day.
Me: Riley, what do you want to wear today? A dress or shorts?
Riley: A dress.
Me: Here's two options. Do you want the pink or yellow one?
Riley: Hmm. Pank? No tanks, not today. Meb-be jus the yeldow one.

Playing with all her dress up stuff. She has on the princess tutu. She surveys herself.
Riley: Sum-thin missin Mommy.
Puts her finger on her lip and "thinks" for a second.
Riley: I dow! I need my magic won-d. Then I be a beee-uuu-tee-ful prin-swess.

Outtakes

You Moms and Dads out there know what I'm talking about.

Ever tried taking monthly pictures of your child? It gets harder the older they get. Because older = more mobile, wiggly, easily distracted, less compliant.

We have officially hit the "1 in 25 photos" stage meaning that out of 25 attempts at a monthly (or really any) picture I only got 1 where he was sitting up without trying to eat his lamb or the sign.

Case in point.

Trying to destroy the sign.

Attempting to milk the sheep.

Going for the ear.

Almost gave in and resorted to this photo where he was at least somewhat restrained.

Photobooth Fun

My older sister got married in a beautiful wedding this weekend.

We had a great time, but probably my favorite part *ahem other than cocktail hour* was the photobooth guest book. I haven't been in a photobooth in years; mostly because they have been replaced by those creepy/expensive draw your picture booths. You know the ones I'm talking about right? I'm not sure whose idea it was that a pencil sketch paper was better than 4 funny/awkward pictures, but I much prefer the photobooth.

Sadly I couldn't stay at the reception too long since little man had a bedtime curfew, but I managed to drag my little family into the booth a few times with fairly amusing and cute end results.

Seester and I went first. Please note that seester aka TaTa has been to 10x the number of weddings that I have. She was trying to give me her wedding posing tips in the photobooth. After seeing the bridal party pics last night though she informed me that I have some work to do before her wedding.

Riley might have been the most frequent user of the night. I took her once. TG took her after I had left. Then I discovered that she suckered my parents into it too. Don't be concerned by the creepy hand pinning her down in the photos. We were trying to get her to fit in the frame, look at the camera and hold still at the same time. As you can see we were only 1/8 successful.

Does it get any more diva than a red boa and red rose?

I don't think TG and I have ever been into a photobooth together in the 10 years we have known each other. I think for our first time we did a pretty good job.

Beautiful Ballerina Princess

One of Riley's favorite dress up ensembles.

A hand me down ballerina costume, blue "bal-yarina shoes" from Harris Teeter, and my wedding veil (I borrowed that idea from twinnie).

Whenever she wants to play dress up she will come to me and say "Mommy, you help me wook wike a prin-swess?"

When she's all ready she will twirl around and ask, "How my wook?" or "I a bee-uuuu-teeful prin-swess" or "Wook me! I'm a bee-uuuu-teeful bal-yarina!"

Clearly Riley is not lacking in confidence and I know I'm her mom, but I have to agree I think she's just beautiful.

Ramblings

It's that time of the blog again where I have lots of things to say that don't fit a specific topic. Speaking of "fit"...

Check out lil miss Dorito face who threw a hot fit when I took the bag away because she was getting red Dorito fingerprints all over my couch. Speaking of my couch...

There are few things that make me happier than watching my two babies snuggling on the couch together in the mornings or after their naps. Speaking of naps...

Baseball totally puts me to sleep, but the other day I watched a game with great interest because TG was in the front row! He got awesome tickets and got to spend a day out with the guys. Speaking of the guys...

Riley's people drawing skills have greatly improved in the last two weeks and she spends hours down in her new playroom drawing on her dry erase board. As you can see she loves to cover the entire surface with her version of people - a circle for the head, an actual smiley face, two legs and shoes. We think it's pretty darn cute. And finally speaking of cute...

Here's a pic of my glam self after my sister's wedding still getting "my mom" on by bathing the cutest baby boy I know.

5 Months Old

I can hardly believe my little guy is already five months old!

I missed the four month post so there have been a lot of things happening with our Cam. He continues to be an absolute joy and is completely laid back unless he's hungry or tired.

He still sleeps like a champ. Lately we've been cycling through a couple days of going 8-8 straight without waking for a feed, then a couple of days of waking at 4 or 6 am for a feed and then going back to bed until 8 or 9 am. I am so thankful for his amazing sleeping abilities, because I certainly have my hands full with two toddlers and a baby.

Camden already has two teeth! The day after he turned 4 months old his first little tooth came in on the bottom. A week later the second one popped through. It was relatively drama free, just lots of drool and lots of chewing on things, including me. Luckily the breastfeeding biting only lasted 48 hours just as I was about to resort to the hard wean. He must have sensed the impending doom.

His little head is covered in more feathery little baby hairs everyday. It sticks up like big bird and I think it's completely adorable. TG likes to slick it down, but I just let him rock the look.

Camden is absolutely enamored with his big sister. He lights up when she comes in the room and if she's not nearby he's whipping his head around trying to find her. If he's fussing he will immediately calm down if she comes over to talk and play with him and all of a sudden you can hear giggles and shrieks of happiness.

He can sit up for a second or two alone before he leans and topples over. He loves to stand and really enjoys his jumperoo. Camden still loves the Moby wrap and he and I shop, walk, and hang out on Riley's playdates in tandem.

My favorite part of the day is when he wakes up for the morning or from naps. His entire chubby face lights up into the biggest grin when he sees me and when I pick him up he will nuzzle into my neck for a second and goo and babble.

Happy 5 months little guy! We love you so much!
