Last week Gigi and Papa made my summer of 2010 dreams come true and took us all along on a trip to Corolla in the Outer Banks. It was everything a beach vacation should be. The weather was perfect, the water was cold, the sand was warm, and the beach wasn't too crowded. We rode boogie boards, built sand castles, chased crabs, walked in the waves, dug holes, filled buckets with seashells and took monster family naps. I loved every minute of it and was so sad as we drove away.

I would never have taken a trip like this with Riley at 3 months old, but Camden is so laid back and was super cooperative. He braved the sensory overload of sun, sand, waves and wind to give me plenty of beach time and with the help of family I got to spend some special time with Riley too.

At 2 1/2 Riley is the perfect age for a trip to the beach and she was just in seventh heaven. She spent every second she could with her little toes in the sand, of course decked out in the cutest pigtails and swimsuits you've ever seen. She basked in the attention of Gigi, Papa and Lolo and absolutely charmed the swimsuit bottoms off the lifeguard. There is something about watching her pure joy that just makes my heart melt. There was a lot of heart melting on this trip.
